I loved this even more than I loved Salt Houses. I’m a sucker for LGBTQ+ characters who are complete disasters so <spoiler>Naj’s storyline was especially meaningful for me. I love her.</spoiler> I’m really glad I had already read and loved Salt Houses because I am not sure I would have been so excited to read after the first (long) chapter otherwise. So I strongly recommend that first time Hala Alyan readers stick with it if you enjoy complex, emotional family sagas that treat the familiar conflicts in ways that feel new & insightful!
